Late August 07 Thoughts:
WOW...Summer is almost over. Does life seem to slip right by you like it does me sometimes? I love summer (minus the extreme heat). Yep, watching everyone outside roaming the neighborhoods, people at the park, standing in line with perfect strangers waiting for ice cream and kids playing games in the yard.
Summer has a blessing of breaking us from the mundane of life, the routine that can drive us so crazy. Summer is such a welcome break. As a pastor I know that can also sometimes be dangerous. People get out of the 'habit of church'. They got a break in, and never picked back up on their 'habit of church'.
Not that church attendance is the end all (I know almost scary to hear from a pastor). Don't get me wrong, it is important...can I even say vital? God ordained the church and called it His bride. He is crazy about the church...even with all her stains and mess-ups. Yep, "For Better or For Worse" could apply to our Savior's view of the Church.
Let me get back to the "Habit" thing; I fear that when people are getting their BREAK that I often notice this is not just from routine, or the mundane or even church...sometimes is spills over to time with our Lord. We get so busy running to a fro that we miss our 'routine with the Savior'.
Can I encourage all of us to return to our routine with the Savior? Can we all not fear the word routine? I routinely tell me wife and son I love them. I routinely embrace them with hugs and kisses. In this instance 'routine' is not an obligation for me...it is a privilege and desire from my inmost being. Can we do the same with God? Oh, how I want to do that. Oh, how my heart yearns for it. Embrace one worthy routine...Routine of Relationship with God!
Thanks God for even desiring a relationship with a person like me,

EASTER BLOG
Easter is upon us and I wonder how much it truly effects our everyday living. Is it about the candy and cool outfits and feeling special...or is it actually something more?
Sounds redundant to ask...but it bears asking all the same. I ask because I am now a parent and I see how easy it becomes to get wrapped up in the 'other stuff' of Easter time. I want to see my son chase the hidden eggs with other kids. I want to see him get excited when he finds something he thinks is valuable. I want to take so many pictures my camera runs out of battery. Generally speaking I want to soak in the moments that make life just that...life.
What if I transfered that to my walk with the Lord? Could I soak in the moments with Him this Easter? My heart wants to quickly respond with a yes, and my hope is that Jesus will find me ready to truly worship Him this season. I want it to be about Him and the reasons He came to redeem me and the world I live in.
Lord, help me not be so caught up in things and stuff that I miss the moments that define my life with You. Help my hunger grow to be Holy more than Happy. Continue to transform me into the follower, leader, father, husband, friend and pastor You desire for me to become. Help my family know that I am sincere in my quest to know you and serve You in ways I never have before. May I be a light in the darkness engulfing my world this Easter Season.
THANKS AGAIN LORD FOR YOUR SACRIFICE!
